Pilkington Point (Poonagala Viewpoint)

Pilkington Point is another scenic spot located on Poonagala
Road, Bandarawela, Uva Province, Sri Lanka. Poonagala is also known as the
scenic spot. Pilkington Point (Poonagala Viewpoint) of the Poonagala Tea Estate
is located at an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level and was named in 1898
by Sir George Pilkington, the first manager of the Poonagala Company.
If you visit this place in the morning, you will see some
very beautiful scenery. Here you can see five districts of Sri Lanka.
Wellawaya, Kataragama Kiriwehera, Monaragala, Abilipitiya, Udawalawa areas can
also be seen. You can also see DIyaluma Falls at a distance of about 4 km from
Pilkington Point.
1.5 KM uphill from Pilkington Point you will find another
viewpoint. It takes about 45 minutes to travel. It is called Millennium Point.
At this point you can see a 360 degree view more than Pilkington Point.
Millennium Point can only be reached on foot. This is a large elephant trail.
How to reach
This place can be reached by taking the Poonagala road from
Kosande on the Wellawaya road connecting Beragala to Wellawaya. The distance
from Koslanda is 12 km and from Beragala is 29 km. You can reach this place at
a distance of 20 km from Bandarawela on the Kinigama road. Both these routes
will take you through a winding road that passes through beautiful forests and
vast tea estates.
